Information about traveling to the USA
FAQ about travels to USA
What do I have to do if I get sick during my trip to the USA?
If you need to contact a doctor during your trip to the USA, please contact our alarm centre on +45 7010 5050. One of our assistance coordinators will refer you to the best place for treatment that is closest to you.
If you have a valid travel insurance, the alarm centre will provide a payment guarantee for your treatment.
Do I have to pay for the treatment?
We advice you not to pay for the treatment at the place of treatment. Sometimes there is more than one invoice because there is one invoice for each of the services provided by the hospital, for example, one invoice from each of the treating physicians.
It is not possible to use your Scandinavian account to pay American hospitals and clinics. This is why SOS International provides a payment guarantee for the treatment of our partners in the USA. A payment guarantee means that SOS International is liable for the payment of the treatment you receive.
I have received invoices after I came back home, what do I have to do?
Some places for treatment send invoices directly to the patients, even though they have been informed that the invoices must be sent to our partners in the USA. When this happens, several different invoices will be sent because all services in the American health system are invoiced separately.
When you return home from the USA, it is therefore normal that you will receive letters from the place for treatment. These will often be the so-called ”Statements”, ”Final Notice” or ”Collection”. You may receive these letters several times.
You have to send all the documents you receive to SOS International, stating your case number. You can send them in one of the following ways:
- Scan the invoices and send them to usaadm@sos.eu
- Send them by fax on +45 7010 5056
- Send them by mail to SOS International, Nitivej 6, 2000 Frederiksberg, Attn. Skadeservice & Support
SOS International will send you a confirmation every time we receive Statements, Final Notice or Collections from you. Unfortunately, we are unable to send you regular updates on the case and the negotiations process.
It is of utmost importance that you send us all documents you receive. If we do not receive all documents, we will not know that there are any unpaid invoices that we are unaware of.
Please note that unfortunately, the process of closing such a case can be lengthy, but you will be indemnified for all the expenses that are covered by your travel insurance pursuant to the current terms and conditions. This applies even if the invoice is issued under your name.
I have not reported the injury to SOS International during my trip, but I have now received an invoice
If you have been on a trip to the USA and you have got sick without contacting SOS International during your trip, please report this directly to your insurance company.
