Medical Pre-Assessment

As a rule, travel insurance only covers acute illness and injury occurring during the trip. With a medical pre-assessment, you will receive confirmation of whether expenses for treatment of your chronic or pre-existing illness/injury can be covered while travelling. This service provides you with security and peace of mind in case your condition worsens during the trip.

A medical pre-assessment is valid per trip. Therefore, it is necessary to apply for each trip.

Your medical records should be obtained either via sundhed.dk or directly from your general practitioner/private clinic/treatment center. The notes should include dates, your full name, and your personal identification number.

No - Unfortunately, we cannot perform a medical pre-assessment without valid insurance.

You can only apply for a child under 15 years of age or a person for whom you are the guardian.

It is necessary to provide travel dates, as these are relevant for the pre-assessment. Therefore, you can only apply for a pre-assessment when you know your travel dates.

Your doctor does not necessarily have insight into the terms governing the validity of the travel insurance. Therefore, it is particularly important that you obtain a medical pre-assessment.

You can get a pre-assessment when there are less than two months until you are due to travel. All questions regarding the coverage of cancellation insurance due to chronic or existing illness should be directed directly to your travel insurance company.

Travel insurance normally only covers acute illness and injury. A medical pre-assessment gives you answers on whether you can get coverage for your expenses for treatment of your chronic or existing illness during the trip. This is a service and security for you if your condition worsens during the trip.

Your medical pre-assessment is only valid for the specific trip. If you are going on multiple trips within the next two months, we can make a combined assessment.

If you have received a medical pre-assessment and there are changes before the departure date, such as requiring medical treatment or changes in medication, you should contact us again for a re-evaluation.

You decide whether or not to travel. The medical pre-assessment merely gives you the opportunity to know your insurance coverage before you travel. As a starting point, you will still be covered for acute illness and/or injury that is not related to the reservation. If you are traveling within the EU/EEA countries, you can bring your blue EU health insurance card (EHIC), which is available at Citizen Service or ordered via www.borger.dk. The card ensures you treatment on equal terms with the citizens of the country you are visiting. Contact Citizen Service for more information.

• If you have a chronic or existing illness/injury, and within the last 2 months have been in contact with a doctor or other type of healthcare provider beyond a scheduled check-up
• If you, within the last 2 months, have had changes in your medication
• If you, within the last 2 months, have had changes in your treatment plans or developed new symptoms
• If you are awaiting tests or treatments, including surgeries or test results

Full coverage You are covered by the travel insurance for expenses for treatment of acute illness and injury, and for expenses for treatment of your chronic or existing illness

A reservation in coverage You are only covered by the travel insurance for expenses for treatment of acute illness and injury during the trip. Expenses related to the reservation will not be covered by the travel insurance.

If you have a chronic condition, you only need to undergo a medical pre-assessment if there have been changes to your medication or treatment within the past two months – regardless of whether these changes were made on your own initiative or in agreement with a healthcare provider. This also applies if you have undergone extraordinary medical examinations in addition to your regular check-ups during the same period, or if such examinations are planned.

When we request medical records, it is to ensure a thorough and fact-based assessment of the clinical condition. This may be a necessary prerequisite for determining whether a possible reservation can be lifted in accordance with the travel insurance requirements for a stable state of health prior to the trip – while also ensuring that you, as a traveler, can feel confident in the assessment.

SOS International's online solution for medical pre-assessment has been developed in collaboration with SOS International's doctors and provides coverage assurance based on the answers you provide along the way. A full or partial coverage assurance is calculated.
