Asia travel season begins amid landslides and floods

The travel season to Asia is now underway. But this year, the idyllic image of a peaceful sandy beach has, in many cases, been replaced by heart-wrenching scenes after three simultaneous cyclones struck Southeast Asia, triggering landslides and severe flooding.

The cyclones, coinciding with the monsoon rains, have hit hard in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Sri Lanka. In Thailand - the most popular destination in Asia - water levels have reached three metres in the southern province of Songkhla.
SOS International is ready to assist travellers in the region with evacuation if necessary.
Guidance and evacuation
Before an evacuation can be considered, it is crucial that leaving the hotel is safe and that roads and airports are accessible:
“When Nordic travellers contact us from affected areas, we provide support and guidance, initially focusing on advising people to seek safety and wait. Being far from home in uncertain situations, it’s incredibly reassuring to speak to experts in your own language,” says Karin Tranberg, executive vice president for Travelcare at SOS International.
SOS International urges travellers to follow local authorities’ instructions closely.
